FAMILY/DOMESTIC LAW

The end of a marriage is one of life’s most stressful and traumatic events during which time, clients are expected to make important life decisions. Mindful of this, Darsie, Sharpe, Mackritis & Dukelow  PLLC work to create an office where top quality legal service is our standard and where the client feels free to ask questions.  While no one wants to hire an attorney, the right attorney can guide you through the complex  issues involved in a separation and divorce and work with you to achieve your goals.  In North Carolina, the dissolution of a marriage may involve the resolution of the following issues:

Child Custody and Visitation
Child Support
Post Separation Support
Alimony
Equitable Distribution (Division of property and debt)
Absolute Divorce

If you and your spouse can agree about the division of your property and debt and, if applicable, the custody of your children, visitation and support issues, you can sign a written document setting forth your agreement. Though you may reach agreement,  the use of a qualified and knowledgeable  attorney is important to  make sure all significant areas have been addressed and  ensure that any agreement you sign is properly drafted and understood.  A poorly drafted agreement may cause serious future complications that could be avoided by a properly prepared agreement.

If you or your spouse cannot agree on one or more issues related to the dissolution of the marriage, our attorneys are available to help you determine what is in your best interest.  In addition to zealously representing clients in court, our office emphasizes negotiated settlements through mediation and arbitration.  Most clients want to avoid the time and expense associated with going to court, and accordingly, we spend a great deal of time assisting our clients in prioritizing their needs and setting realistic goals. The client is an integral part of any legal proceeding and our attorneys strive to keep our clients informed and updated on the progress of their  domestic case.
